John Fogerty (Centerfield - With Original "Zanz Kant Danz"):

This page is about the original version of John Fogerty's 1985 monster hit (over 2 million copies sold) album, "Centerfield". Shortly after its release, John's nemeses, Saul Zaentz, sued John <among other reasons> for character defamation, due to the title and lyrics of "Zanz Kant Danz" (more detailed into is available on the internet). Hence, John changed the title and lyrics from "Zanz" to "Vanz". It worked, but the original is better.

Way back in 1985, LPs were typically released ahead of their CD counterparts and this was the case with "Centerfield". There seemed to be many original ("Zanz") LP copies pressed, but the CD copy was out for about a single day before they halted production, making the original CD very rare.

To confuse matters, subsequently released copies with "Vanz", still had "Zanz" on the LP jacket, but "Zanz" on the LP label. So, many people thinking they were buying an original, ended up with a reissue with a misleading cover.

The original LP pressings (with "Zanz") featured a sticker, 'Features The Hit Single: 'The Old Man Down The Road" '. This sticker was only included on the original pressings.
